"Bag Runner" or "Dirty Player"

Definition "Bag runner” Get every bag in the hole. No blocking

Definition "Dirty player” Player who puts a lot of blocks, a lot of bags on the board and likes to play with a lot of strategy. This player has a roll, reverse cut, an airmail and every other shot. So they have many options when the board gets dirty

Benefits of a bag runner.

-You only need to master 3 throws: Slide, Push and Airmail.

-It is a lot easier and faster to master these three throws. These 3 throws are almost identical, having some nuanced differences.

-Will not confuse the arm motion with different shots.

-A slide is the easiest shot in the game, making it the most high percentage shot there is.

-Less likely to hurt your arm with more intricate shots

Drawbacks of a bag runner.

-High PPR (Point Per Round), but low DPR (Difference in Points Per round). The amount of points made will be low. At the higher levels you will have a lot more tied rounds. When you do score it will usually only be 1-2 points a round. Need to play more perfectly.

-Since there are no blocks and the slide is the easiest shot a lot of dirty players wait for you to put a block or mess up and then they take advantage.

-If you mess up and throw in a way that you can’t collect you lose 2 points. A dirty player can do a reverse cut (or another shot) and collect that bag (not having to lose 2 points).

-Any time you mess up you just have to give up on that bag.

-Airmails are riskier than rolls. If you miss an airmail it usually goes off the board and does not block. A missed roll usually stays on the board and sometimes blocks.

-You are a very predictable player.

-You need more endurance. Your DPR is going to be lower; so it will take more rounds to win a game. Let's say it will take you an extra 5 rounds to win each game. You also need to win 8 games to win a tournament, that is an extra 40 rounds you have to play. A longer game is at least 20 rounds, so that is the equivalent of having to play 2 more very long games.

-If a highly skilled bag runner goes against a highly skilled dirty player and they are each playing their best game the dirty player will always win.

Benefits of being a dirty player.

-You have many throws to handle any situation. Lower PPR (Point Per Round), but higher DPR (Difference in Points Per round). The amount of points made will be higher.

-Don’t need to play so perfectly, because use your different shots to fix a bad throw.

-Rolls are less risky than airmails. If you miss an airmail it usually goes off the board. A missed roll stays on the board and oftentimes blocks.

-If a highly skilled bag runner goes against a highly skilled dirty player and they are each playing their best game the dirty player will always win.

Drawbacks of being a dirty player.

-You have to master many more throws. It is a lot harder and time consuming learning all these different shots: Slide, Block, Push, Hard Push, Airmail, Cut, Reverse cut, Roll, Bar of Soap, Penguin and any other new shots that is invented.

-There are many different motions you need to learn with your arm and body. Sometimes you will not execute the shot you are attempting. You might want to do a push and you accidentally do a roll and the bag flies off the board. You might want to do a simple slide and it rolls and ends up on the side of the hole, not collectable.

-The way you need to move your arm and body may irritate or injure your arm or body.

-I have seen many “Dirty Players” get too aggressive. They think they can make any shot and start going for low probability shots that strategically do not make sense. In the short run they might make it, but in the long run they will start making too many mistakes. This will cause a “dirty player” to lose games they should win.
